The federal government spent 7.01 trillion dollars in 2025 and here is a senator telling what they could do with 7 billion dollars if she could steal it from Bezos. If it’s that cheap why in the fuck haven’t you set aside .1% of the yearly budget to do it? Why should we believe you would do it if we just simply gave you more money? You wouldn’t you’re just pandering to idiots in the hope that envy will give you more power you self important bitch
Elizabeth Warren@SenWarren

Jeff Bezos has $222 billion. If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over. And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.

people misunderstand the icarus story. the problem was not that he flew too high. it's that the wings were made of beeswax, which offered very little resistance to heating. with modern materials he would have had no problems. we can fly as close to the sun as we want now

In September 1911 Philadelphia golfers, led by AW Tillinghast and George Crump, raised money to purchase a watch for Jack McDermott in honor of his victory in the US Open. That watch is now available to purchase on eBay for anyone with a spare $25k.

might have been a mistake for silicon valley to roll out their products with the sales pitch "it's over for [your way of making a living/deriving joy and meaning from existence]: say hello to our amazing human obsolescence machine! it only requires all of the water in the world!"

First we had one child and I thought I knew what children are like. Our second child was completely different; I’d overgeneralized. There are actually two types of children.

"Sitting on their vast wealth," could also be phrased "investing their vast wealth in productive enterprises instead of throwing money to activist NGOs that are mostly scams."
beowulf888@beowulf888

@charlesmurray But Bezos, Musk, Ellison, Page are mostly sitting on their vast wealth. Gates and Buffet have given away >$120 billion combined. Good for MacKenzie!

Ask ChatGPT a complex question and you'll get a confident, well-reasoned answer. Then type, "Are you sure?" Watch it completely reverse its position. Ask again. It flips back. By the third round, it usually acknowledges you're testing it, which is somehow worse. It knows what's happening and still can't hold its ground. This isn't a quirky bug. A 2025 study found GPT, Claude, and Gemini flip their answers ~60% of the time when users push back. Not even with evidence, just doubt. We trained AI this way. RLHF rewards agreement over accuracy. Human evaluators consistently rate agreeable answers higher than correct ones. So the models learned a simple lesson: telling you what you want to hear gets rewarded. And now 1/3 of companies are using these systems for complex tasks like risk forecasting and scenario planning. We built the world's most expensive yes-men and deployed them where we need pushback the most. I wrote up why this happens and what actually fixes it: randalolson.com/2026/02/07/the…

DEI is a cruel and condescending policy. It marks minority achievers with a social suspicion that they aren't achievers at all but mere tokens in a rigged system that puts identity ahead of merit. This blemish, true or not, lasts a lifetime, breeding anger all around.

Big props to all precious metal & sound money investors / advocates. You were absolutely right on gold & silver. A fraying intl order, persistent monetary debasement, and supply dynamics of scarce costly-to-produce commodities explain why. The same forces lead me elsewhere.

The Northeast is burning oil and coal to keep the lights on during this winter storm. Why? Because they don't have enough natural gas pipeline capacity. And they don't have pipeline capacity because they spent a decade blocking every proposal. Some examples: Constitution Pipeline (PA to NY): Approved by FERC 2014, killed by NY water permit denial 2016 Northeast Energy Direct (PA to MA): Blocked by Massachusetts 2016 Northeast Supply Enhancement: Rejected by New York Access Northeast: Killed by MA/CT/RI opposition 2017 The stated reason for blocking? Climate and environment. The actual result? ISO New England's own analysis: "Oil and coal generators are critical on the coldest winter days when natural gas supply is constrained." Oil produces 50% more CO2 per MWh than natural gas combined cycle. Coal is worse. They blocked pipelines to fight climate change. The outcome is higher emissions during peak demand, higher electricity prices, and grid strain. Policy intended to reduce emissions is forcing the exact opposite. This is what happens when you make infrastructure decisions based on aspirational goals rather than engineering reality. Great job you guys!
NextWave EFT@NextWaveEFT

Today, 27% of New England’s electricity will come from burning barrels of oil. This is third world country stuff.

Fed "independence" is a myth, a story. It is the moral cover which justifies its grotesque state-sanctioned near-monopoly power over the most important market in the world: money. The Fed is never "independent" of the banking establishment. It is of, by, and for the banks. The Fed is the banking establishment's greatest accomplishment. And because modern banking is an appendage of the state, so too is the Fed its most potent tentacle. Nobody should really care about how much the Fed spent on its building renovations. What a distraction! The Fed's crime is not an embellished construction project, but the systematic coercive distortion of money rates across the global economy for the past century.
