Looking at the LA28 schedule, 10k / marathon double is super viable. Just sayin' 👀

Should you run at a constant effort or a constant speed, if you are doing an out-and-back loop with a strong wind? Turns out...it depends! *Usually* constant-effort is better, but at slow running speeds with very strong winds, constant-speed can actually win!

Amazing gem from the old internet: "My Uncle from Africa," a blog about the Swedish-Finnish coach Onni Niskanen, who moved to Ethiopia to help develop athletics in that country after WWII and became the coach of Olympic Marathon champion Abebe Bikila ulfniskanen.wordpress.com

(the >20 mph story is very funny: the reason the predicted energetic cost is too high is that, in extreme headwinds, people lean into the wind and use their torso like a wing, generating upward force that reduces the metabolic cost of running!)

How do I know my wind-adjusted pace calculators are accurate? Because they agree with real wind tunnel data in headwinds of up to 20 mph / 32 km/h!

I'm working on a "track version" of my wind calculator & made an interesting discovery: for circular loops, the average effect of wind on pace doesn't depend on the size of the loop -- on a 2mi circular loop you just spend 2x the time at every point as a 1mi loop

(Also, since someone on ig asked about this: I shifted the calendar here to align with a US-centric season peaking in May/June; the original book obviously peaks in July/Aug for the Olympics etc)

Peter Coe's book "Winning Running" is one of the few resources that lays out *year-long* periodization schemes for middle-distance training. The real key here is the massive Oct-Feb base or "preparation" phase
