Mr 88 talking about his early years this afternoon. Hauling 6 to 8 cans of milk to cheese factory everyday by horse 2 miles. Hauling 20 bags of oats 3 miles with a team to feed mill to get ground. Carrying 100 lb bags of layer mash to second story of chicken barn. Water pumped by hand and carried up as well. Hauling firewood 3 miles to town by horse. Sold for $3 a cord.

@coybowaco11 @GGunthorp I agree on the entrapment risk with net fence, particularly with horned goats or sheep. I have lost several that way.

@GGunthorp I started with those step in plastic posts and electric netting. For me, plain fiberglass rods with a single or double wire pulled taught is less likely to fail. A net that sags is not so hot. I took my nets to the dump. Also have seen animals get caught in net.

I have rotated goats through dense brush using electric be fencing. It often turns into a two person job to avoid snagging the net and causing damage. I have started using Gallagher Smart Fence reels in these situations. You wind up getting four ploy wires up quickly which seems to be enough to hold goats and LGD’s as long as you are moving them fairly frequently and don’t allow them to get hungry.
