In Slot’s system, he wants a 6 who can dictate play like a quarterback that was why we went from Zubimendi, whom they missed out on we had to use Gravenberch there which is a profile clash , same as Macca. Macca is an elite 10 or 8 forced to play deep. He has the brain to control the game, but he doesn't have the physical profile to cover transitions like sprinting back 40 yards when the press is broken. Slot is asking a playmaker to be a vacuum cleaner. To press high and cover transitions at an elite level, you need high volume runners with defensive instincts , someone like Wijnaldum/Henderson profile, Szoboszlai has the engine, but his profile is more of an attacking transition player and when you ask creative players to do the dirty work for 90 minutes, their output in the final third drops. You end up with a midfield that is busy but lacks the specialized defensive screening needed to protect the back four. Our current midfield is being asked to do three distinct jobs simultaneously 1.Drop deep to take the ball from center backs. 2.Jump out to the opposition’s holding mid. 3.Sprint back when the ball is lost. Unfortunately, only very few players in world football have the profile to do all three and most elite midfields balance this by having one Sitter( Rodri type) one Progressor (Rice type) and one Creator( Bruno Fernandes type) We currently has a collection of very talented Midfielders who are somewhere between a box-to-box and a playmaker. We don't have a Pure 6 , The Specialist Destroyer, a good DM. We have Pure 10 in Wirtz but he's still adapting but slot himself isn't helping Matters cus the profiles of our Midfielders are too similar, they end up stepping on each other's toes or, worse, leaving the same gaps open in transition and it's not that they aren't running, it's that they are running into the wrong spaces because their natural instincts don't match the defensive requirements of the role.

@Shannxo @fieldsjournal There will likely be wage reduction clauses in the contracts with no UCL and even if there's not, the times are changing.... It's probably more expensive to include huge sign-on fees/Cup win bonuses then to increase basic squad wages to around £200-300k and reduce squad size

@TheTimothySteve Just making the premise that he still needs to step up and fulfill his potential. We've seen promising Wingers like him before but never fulfill their potential at Liverpool Jordan Ibe, Harry Wilson, Ryan Kent to name a few... Let's see what Morrison will do for us

@Jordanangs Ryan Kent never touched these numbers. Morrison is creating historic records at academy level but I agree with your premise. Hence, why player profiling is important.

Kieran Morrison is actually lobos. People always bring up him not having blinding speed as a measure of how successful he can be. These people are belligerently clueless. PnP is both pace & power & Morrison is going to be one of if not the most powerful forward of his era.

@TheTimothySteve He's good but in context, we've had wingers like sterling, Jordan Ibe, Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson, I would say we're all levels above him. Physically he's not there yet but if he manages that transition he will be up there and will have a long career in the PL/EFL leagues...

Kieran Morrison is the best talent out of the academy since Trent. There is a reason why Timothy has backed him since day one & why he will hit top level football like a bowling ball to pins. It is not an if but a when.
