This will be one of the lasting images that sticks in my mind from Coach Mac’s tenure at Creighton: Cutting down the nets as Big East Regular Season champions. A feat that was unimaginable not even a decade before it happened.

It’s kind of heartening that the response to Mac’s retirement from our in-state opponent has been vitriol and derision, but our Big East rivals have largely given him his flowers. This is a special conference, man. United by hate. This is the place to be, and he took us here.

He had chances to leave, he stayed loyal He brought a Big East Championship to Omaha, Nebraska I really wish it ended better, but he earned the right to go out on his terms

Greg McDermott took a Missouri Valley League school and made them a powerhouse in a basketball centric conference He should have a statue outside of CHI for eternity. It’s a sad day for the Creighton Bluejays, but also a day to celebrate Coach.

Incredible coach who won 645 games in 32 years on the sidelines. Led Creighton to a golden era of success. More than anything, one of the most down-to-earth people you will ever meet. Mac deserves all the love and credit that he gets, and he wants none of it. What a career.

As a child who grew up at the Civic, the idea that Jays hoops would become what it is today was a pipe dream. Any other man at the helm may have crashed the ship, but Mac brought us to new heights through uncharted waters without compromising our culture. Build the damn statue.
