In many cities around the world, street cats are left to survive on their own. But in Valencia, Spain, things are a little different. Across the city, small, carefully designed houses have been installed to give outdoor cats a safe place to rest and shelter. These tiny refuges protect them from rain, heat, and cold, offering comfort and security in an otherwise unpredictable environment. One of the most charming examples can be found on Carrer del Museu, where a miniature house built into a blue wall captures the attention of passersby. Though only about 30 centimeters tall, it’s beautifully crafted in traditional Valencian style, complete with Spanish roof tiles, a small fountain, and even a tiny garden. Created by artist Alfonso Yuste Navarro, the piece also carries a meaningful dedication inspired by a local legend, honoring four cats said to have survived a time when felines were once persecuted in the area. Today, these small houses do more than decorate the streets. They reflect a community effort to care for animals, supported by volunteers and animal welfare groups who believe every cat deserves safety and dignity.

This situation stayed heavy on our hearts for days. A mother crow had been caught in an illegal leg trap, and her leg was badly injured. Letting her go like that would have meant certain death. We could tell she had been caring for babies recently, but we had no idea where they were. For several days, animal control officers searched everywhere for her chicks, but they couldn’t find them. At the same time, we were looking after a baby crow that had been orphaned in a completely different area. Holding onto a small hope, we decided to bring the two together. As soon as the injured mother saw the baby, she walked straight to him. She gently held him with her beak, pulled him close, and then placed herself in front of him, protecting him from the people watching. She was a mother who had lost her babies, and he was a baby who had lost his mother. The very next day, against all expectations, her babies were finally found. She raised the orphan along with her own chicks at the rescue while her leg healed. When the time came, they were all released together—one large, happy family. This will always be one of our most cherished rescue stories.

Wounded, chained, and left to die by poachers, the elephant struggled under the weight of pain and fear. Ranger Peter arrived and refused to give up. Slowly, gently, he freed Tembo, cleaned his wounds, and offered kindness. For the first time, the elephant exhaled — a long, trembling sigh of relief. As Tembo healed, a remarkable bond formed. Every day, he waited for Peter at the sanctuary gate, curling his trunk around the man’s arm, walking beside him, resting with him — loyal, trusting, loving. Even storms couldn’t break their connection. Tembo stayed near Peter, guarding him as he had once been guarded. Years later, free among his herd, Tembo never strayed far. He proved that elephants never forget… and sometimes, they never stop loving. 💛🐘

Video from Rishikesh shows a rafting guide rescuing a monkey that had fallen into the Ganga and was being swept away by the current. The incident took place near Brahmpuri, where a rafting team spotted the struggling animal while guiding tourists. The team, along with the tourists, managed to pull the monkey out safely.

Well Done Spain 🇪🇸. A ROOF TILE THAT’S GIVING LITTLE OWLS THEIR HOMES BACK In rural Spain, a clever design is helping thousands of nocturnal birds reclaim what modern construction quietly took away. The Little Owl once nested in old stone walls and traditional farmhouses. But as rural architecture modernized, those natural cavities disappeared — leaving these small hunters without shelter. So conservationists from the Grup de Naturalistes d’Osona and Grup de Natura Sterna designed something brilliant. They created the Teula Mussolera — a modified clay roof tile that doubles as a high-tech birdhouse. Here’s why it works: It looks exactly like traditional Spanish roofing — preserving the beauty of rural homes. Its internal tunnel is predator-proof and thermally stable, protecting chicks from heat and hunters. It allows owls to live alongside humans as villages expand. And here’s the smartest part… This isn’t charity. It’s partnership. The Little Owl is an elite natural pest controller — hunting thousands of insects and rodents every year. Farmers who install these tiles aren’t just helping wildlife… they’re recruiting a silent, feathered security team that reduces the need for chemical pesticides. Sometimes conservation isn’t about separating humans and nature. It’s about designing a way to thrive together.

She was twenty-two years old. 🇬🇧 Her father kept the lighthouse on the Farne Islands, a mile off the Northumberland coast. She'd lived on lighthouses since she was a baby. 7 September 1838. A storm hit the coast. The SS Forfarshire, a paddle steamer carrying 63 people, lost power and drifted onto the rocks. The ship broke in two. Passengers were thrown into the sea. Nine survivors clung to the rocks in the dark. Freezing. Waiting. At dawn, Grace saw them from the lighthouse window. Her father said it was impossible. The waves were too high. A rowing boat in that sea was a death sentence. Grace said they had to go. Just two of them. A 22-year-old woman and her 52-year-old father. They rowed a small open boat through enormous waves. They reached the rocks. They couldn't fit everyone. William climbed onto the rocks with two survivors while Grace held the boat alone in the storm. They ferried them back in two trips. Every one of them survived. Grace became the most famous woman in England overnight. Queen Victoria sent money. The RNLI gave her a medal. Painters came to the island. She was offered money to appear in circuses. She refused everything. She stayed on her rock. Four years later, she died of tuberculosis. She was twenty-six. The RNLI still operates today. Volunteers. Every single one. They've saved over 140,000 lives. Because one morning, a woman looked out of a lighthouse window. And refused to look away. Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧

Pocha the elephant was stolen and lived in captivity in a zoo in Argentina for over 20 years. Her daughter, Guillermina, was born there, both living in a small concrete pit enclosure, never eating the wild grasses or playing in the mud. The people who ran the zoo decided to do the right thing for the animals and began finding sanctuaries for them. An elephant sanctuary in Brazil agreed to take Pocha and Guillermina and plans were made for the transfer. The girls seemed to understand what was happening and the zoo staff were emotional as they said goodbye. It took several days for them to overcome their initial fear of the larger space at the sanctuary but they eventually moved out of their barn into the yard and began to explore and play. They had no idea how much their lives had changed for the better!
