The Ganguly family of Shyamnagar is finally relieved. For several years, Somnath Shyam, the outgoing TMC MLA of Jagaddal, obstructed the plot of land belonging to this family on Bharat Chandra Roy Road in Shyamnagar by fencing it off and displaying outside the cordoned off area the ‘Biswa Bangla’ logo. The obstruction was allegedly imposed because the family refused to sell the land at the throwaway price offered by the MLA. Yesterday, following the BJP’s victory in the West Bengal assembly election, party workers dismantled the barrier. Using bulldozers, they systematically demolished and razed to the ground all the walls that had been erected to block the property.

In 2012 her unit prevented Somali pirates from hijacking a Chinese merchant vessel. She was awarded the Indian Navy Videsh Seva Medal for her role in the operation. She became the first woman to qualify as a navigation instructor in the Indian Armed Forces. Before her command she served as Deputy Executive Officer on INS Chennai. Ishan built his career through the traditional naval officer route. Sea postings. Steady progression. Assessed ready for command on his own merit. On December 4, 2023, Navy Day, both received command simultaneously. Prerna took charge of INS Trinkat. A Waterjet Fast Attack Craft based in Goa. She became the first woman in Indian history to command a warship leading an all male crew of 50 personnel. Ishan took charge of INS Vibhuti the same day. A Veer class missile vessel under the same Western Fleet. INS Vibhuti had been part of the fleet reviewed by President Droupadi Murmu off Goa just weeks earlier. First time in Indian naval history that siblings commanded warships simultaneously. Two siblings. Two warships. One Navy. Follow for stories India deserves to remember.
