@jm_miller @propublica I have been researching how other states have supported and incentivized mental health professionals who are currently practicing and Utah is doing so little. Additionally, reimbursement for mental health therapists is incredibly low so it’s hard to stay in the field.

@jm_miller @propublica Working as the Executive Director for the National Association of Social Workers - Utah Chapter we don’t empower our currently licensed therapists. We are so busy trying to license new professionals that those who have the experience are being forgotten.

***Longer post, feel free to skip*** I sent the following via email to my representatives in the Utah Legislature. While there is little chance of changing minds in this case, I felt like it was worthwhile. We are going to defeat this in November. *** I want to reach out to voice my opposition to the recently proposed amendment to the Utah Constitution, which will adjust the manner and extent to which the legislature can change voter-passed initiatives. I view the proposed amendment as a significant reduction to citizen rights, with an inappropriate aggregation of power given to the legislature. While I recognize that it is important for the legislature to be able to make changes to citizen initiatives, that ability already exists and was reaffirmed in the Utah Supreme Court's decision. The legislature's ability to make minor changes as needed, or to make larger changes with an obligation to meet a higher standard, seems appropriate to me. An unchecked right for the legislature to repeal, replace, or otherwise modify any citizen-passed initiative makes the citizen right to pass initiatives essentially meaningless. The legislature already has significant power in Utah. It has the power to call itself into a special session. It is the only body that can propose constitutional amendments. And it has a growing habit of placing legislative leaders on committees that are by their nature executive functions. I fully realize that you are part of the body whose power is increased by way of this proposed amendment, so the incentive is clearly not strong for you to stop it. But I do want to appeal to you on the level of a citizen of the state. Please consider that this amendment, if passed, further distorts the balance of power and makes us more vulnerable to the whims of just one branch. Unchecked power in any circumstance leaves us more vulnerable to error and to abuse. It's unhealthy for the governed as well as those governing. I oppose this amendment and encourage you to do the same. If you have any interest in discussing this further, please let me know. Thank you for your work on behalf of our community. The ward exec secretary called my wife and made an appointment for the bishop to come by our house this evening. He wants to give us both callings. I haven't attended in 5+ years. No one has ever asked me why I stopped going. Should be fun.

@HiltonHotels I wanted to let you know that the parking lot of the Hampton Inn Salt Lake City/Layton’s parking lot is extremely unsafe. It is just a giant pad of ice. My 14 year old slipped and fell in a big ice puddle and was soaking wet last night. You may want to look at it.

@Delta Delays/cancels due to maint. Book us hotel that wont accept booking. At midnight have to go back to airport to convince someone to help. New hotel 30 min away, didn’t get there til 2 am had to be up early for rebooked flight. Everyone was so unkind through it all. #delta
