As a parent, the pressure to push you children from even a young age to excel so that they can get into ultra-competitive schools is real. We need to create room for kids to be kids without the worry that if they aren’t doing 15 different extracurriculars, they won’t get into college.

What do you think happened in our culture, independent of technology, that caused teenage self esteem and self harm rates to spike and time with friends to fall off a cliff, at the exact same moment as the adoption of the smart phone?

It’s not the stoppages. It’s actual game play. Is March Madness or any college game less enjoyable at 40 minutes ? What about the Olympics ? The NFL is about 15 minutes of actual play time and the rest talking heads and it’s the most watchable sport. That’s not an accident

@konnydev It’s a balancing act, if you have no ideas and you just ask customers what they want, you won’t produce anything innovative. At the same time, you need to validate that the idea you have solves a real problem.

Startups fail because founders chase ideas instead of customers. Change my mind.

If they don’t know their costs, and you don’t know their costs, how is it possible for taxpayers, caregivers and patients to get a fair deal ? And the concept of “every other country does it “ ignores the fact that they all converted decades and decades ago, long before you and your peers allowed the extreme vertical integration we face now. This! Architects don’t frame up their own buildings. Mechanical engineers don’t typically machine parts. It was a unique quirk of history that we were the engineers and implementers of our designs.

@KVisner @trikcode Test harness I haven't used that phrase since age of old. Now we're using tests within the frameworks . Think unit, nunit, pytest, and so on. I guess it works if you're talking about something that's legacy, hardware, and maybe embedding.
