In 2015, I finally met Stephen MR Covey at a conference where he talked about his father, he said: "My father was good in public, but even better in private. He treated his family well." Talking about trust at a servant leadership conference... How are we in private vs public spaces? I’ve witnessed some who can be dynamic on stage, but that charm is over when they get behind the curtain. Charisma and character are NOT the same. Integrity is consistency over time. Beware of those we follow. Chasing a tinkling gong may be enticing, but like a sugar high, it is unsustainable and can be destructive. As a teenager, I was inspired by Stephen R. Covey and the work he was doing. I knew I wanted to share a similar message someday. Of course, I don’t compare myself to him, but over twenty years later, in 2012, I was grateful to share a stage with him at the same conference just a few months before he passed away.
