Dhanesh Krishnarao, assistant professor of physics, was recently awarded a $66,902 grant from the Space Telescope Science Institute, a research arm of @NASA. With the grant, Krishnarao and his research students study the Large Magellanic Cloud. 2cc.co/3y6KTvw

Blair Savage, professor emeritus of the University of Wisconsin, died of cancer last night (July 18), preceded in death by his wife Linda just a few months ago. I will share more later, but he was a huge influence on my life and a source of support and encouragement. RIP Blair.

@schwanerhill Lucky to be teaching courses this year that were virtual last year for me. Offered past segments only to those out with legitimate excuses-appreciated by students while keeping "live" lectures high value. No uni. support for in-person recording going forward, though.

Very similar to my experience. I’m very unconvinced that recording classes is a pedagogical boon: even more students than usual clearly trying to catch up on a semester’s worth of material in the 36 hours before the final, despite homework being a substantial part of the grade.

New paper today! And a fun one that came about after @zpacefromspace and I listened to a talk and realized we could test/use a predicted feature in @MaNGASurvey observations! We find out what “Dark Gaps” in galaxies really are and find that they are tied to bar resonances!

Well, COVID has at last entered our household. Our daughter (one-shot vaccinated, two weeks shy of being eligible for dose 2) has cold symptoms and a positive antigen test today; almost certainly got it at school or swimming/skating.
