Since the Four Nations break, the #NHLJets are 13-6-1, with wins over the other three top teams in the NHL (Dallas, Washington, Vegas). The Winnipeg Jets' power play is currently sitting at 33.8%, which would be the greatest power play in NHL history if it held. After the 2023-24 season, Rick Bowness said "If our specialty teams had been average, we probably would have won the Presidents' Trophy. We were that close to it.” Now, the Jets' league-best power play has them in a position to once again contend for the Presidents' Trophy. Through 51 games, the #NHLJets power play is running hot at 33.3%. To recognize just how special that is, consider this: That would be the greatest power play in NHL history if it held until the end of the season (I know, there's a long way to go). The 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers currently hold the record at 32.4%. When Edmonton set the record, it was the highest mark since 1977-78, the year the league started tracking PP%. To think this same Jets team was 22nd (18.8%) in power play percentage last season is wild. Davis Payne deserves a ton of credit, and it's safe to say that Nikolaj Ehlers on the top unit was a good idea all along.
