Yesterday, I stood with leaders and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a protest that was not born out of anger alone, but out of necessity, moral, civic, and national necessity. This was not a protest for optics. It was not an exercise in political performance. It was a statement, clear, firm, and undeniable, that Nigeria must not continue on this dangerous path of decline without resistance from those who still believe in her promise. We marched because governance in Nigeria is drifting further away from the people it is meant to serve. At a time when citizens are burdened by rising inflation, collapsing infrastructure, insecurity, and a failing social system, leadership appears distant, unaccountable, and, in many cases, indifferent. We marched because democracy is not merely about elections; it is about responsibility between elections. When leaders fail to listen, when institutions fail to protect, and when policies fail to uplift, it becomes the duty of the people, peacefully and lawfully, to remind the system that power ultimately belongs to them. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must never be reduced to an extension or an arm of any sitting government. Its constitutional role is to serve the Nigerian people, not to protect the interests of those in power. Any attempt, subtle or overt, to manipulate the electoral process, suppress opposition participation, or deny credible political parties, especially the ADC, a fair opportunity to present candidates in upcoming elections is a direct assault on democracy itself. Nigeria cannot and must not become a nation where opposition voices are systematically weakened through institutional compromise. Democracy loses its meaning the moment the playing field is no longer level. And above all, we chose to remind Nigeria that her future is not yet lost, if her people refuse to give up on her. -DrMo
