I remember growing up in London during the 70s and 80s, with the National Front causing chaos and stirring division. My family and I came as refugees from Iraq seeking asylum in this country. I remember refusing to speaking Arabic at home because in my mind we were British and that’s all I wanted, we escaped Saddam, this country became our safe haven. My pride in being British, my gratitude has not waned. Over the past two years the hate marches in London brought back the memories of the National Front. To me they are the same, they create the same division. The people who marched this weekend are not the modern day National Front. I know several people who attended the march, you do not have the right to stain the good people of this country whose taxes pay your salary. So to the mayor of London, stop the hate marches where there are sizeable arrests, where police are attacked, where minorities cannot even go to places of worship without being verbally abused. Your London has been stained with antisemitism, antisemitic attacks, shrieking mobs who support proscribed terror groups. Yes those hate marches. If you cannot discern for whatever reason who is who, you should step down as mayor. I do hope you are voted out next time by a worthy candidate to take the helm and return London to the beautiful capital of these great isles. We are united against the division you create. We are united to create communities, to take back our agency. We are united.
