If any real human beings who are interested in organizing a cross cultural/cross national learning group, DM me or respond below. Full disclosure, I do not expect anyone to respond but I’m publicly doing this to prove a point.

@Lyn_thinks @ch3lavie You mean like how yall center women and girls around SA even though males are also victims of its just that the former are disproportionately affected by it?

No shocker if queer men perform better academically than straight men. As I’ve said (screenshots), refusing to deal w/ coming-of-age masculinity misses one crucial social variable impacting boys’ & men’s educational disparities: literacy & ideal student conduct becomes FEMINIZED & SISSIFIED as girls & women obtain more education. Vershawn Young racializes idea this in his study on black masculinity & literacy—the sociolinguistics of black masculine racial performance. Marlon Ross also in Sissy Insurgencies on “Good Sissy Conduct.” No matter the boys’ racial position, avoiding this allows ppl to hallucinate about “testosterone” or how “boys learn differently” —-instead of confronting & disrupting the gendered social scripts & codes that mediate these outcomes. Once we see gay boys are “excelling”, these myths expire & we’re tasked w/ actually being responsible & thoughtful toward & about young boys navigating the educational space. And that’s what people don’t wanna do because bioessentialism is more comfy & requires less work.

This study I wrote about a few years ago offers some interesting clues as to why gay boys and men might not be impacted by the crisis of masculinity we see today. The author believes that gay boys are not bothered by the fact that excelling in school is girl-coded. Whereas in general, it is considered uncool for boys to be diligent and obedient in school. Gay boys are more comfortable with gender nonconformity and this with being seen as the Tracey Flick or Nancy Drew type. One could argue that straight boys are trapped from all sides by masculinity. The social codes of their peers discourage academic achievement. And then they are routinely told by others that masculinity itself is toxic, only compounding this problem by alienation and embittering them. nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-ne…

@Lyn_thinks Being able to talk stats and have a conversation in earnest should be what's going on but it's not. Lil and lil boys deserve more especially how adults treat their lived experiences outside of using it for just commentary.

@Lyn_thinks Thank you. I don't want him to suffer, i just want him to leave us alone. I'm tired of looking over my shoulder and worrying if/when he will find us.

Everything his baby mamas tell me he did to them, he did to me when we were younger. He's hit me in the head with a bat when I was sweeping the sidewalk, pushed me down the stairs, etc. My mother never really did anything in my defense unless it made her look bad in public. I graduated with a Masters in English with minor in Music, gave up my future to raise my brothers son because I didn't want him to suffer like I did. But I need to 'let go of the past and forgive him.' "All we got is each other".
