This picture right here is a reminder of something we don’t talk about enough… While these kids are out making a difference, one lawn at a time, it’s just as important that they take care of themselves too. Hydration is key. When you’re out mowing in the summer heat, your body is working hard. Sweating, pushing equipment, being out in the sun, it all adds up. Taking a moment like this to grab some water or a sports drink isn’t just a break… it’s necessary. And here’s something I always recommend to parents and kids in the 50 Yard Challenge: If it’s too hot outside… wait. There’s nothing wrong with letting the sun go down a bit and tackling that lawn later in the afternoon or evening. The mission is important, but safety always comes first. A few quick tips: • Stay hydrated before, during, and after mowing • Take breaks when needed • Wear light-colored clothing • Use sunscreen when you can • Listen to your body—if you feel overheated, stop and rest We want these young men and women not only making a difference… but doing it safely and smart. Because this isn’t just about completing 50 lawns… it’s about building habits that will last a lifetime. What other tips would you give parents with kids taking part in the 50 Yard Challenge?

Thanks to our guest industry speaker at Aggie Turf Club today, Brandon McClellan, Owner of Central Texas Lawn Leveling in Georgetown, TX.  Brandon shared with students about his career path into his lawn leveling business.

At first glance, this yard looked like one of those “there’s no way” kind of lawns… Tall grass. Thick patches. The kind that makes you wonder where the mower will even start. But guess what… they didn’t back down. With every step forward, every push of that mower, that overgrown yard slowly started to change. What once looked impossible began to take shape, line by line, pass by pass. That’s what the 50 Yard Challenge is all about. Not every lawn will be easy. Not every moment will be quick. But the ones that challenge you the most… are the ones that grow you the most. And just like in life, when things feel overwhelming, you don’t quit, you keep going. Because with enough effort, enough patience, and enough heart…even the toughest situations can be turned into something beautiful.
