This is beyond bizarre. A sitting VP of the USA attacking our close allies in Europe (you know, those bureaucrats in Brussels!) in a stump speech for a self-described illiberal politician that has the support of Putin. The Republican Party I grew up with would cringe at any American politician doing this, let alone a Republican!

Been watching the news 📺 on #ArtemisII. I feel like it’s the 1960’s all over. ☝🏻We must keep our thoughts about our brave Artemis astronauts for their reentry. From what I understand this is going to be tricky. There have been some stories about the heat shield, and the change of angle of entry. A very big deal is about to happen. This outcome is better than a ground war or any of the other options that Trump was thinking of to soothe his ego. This, as @CedricLeighton just said, is a strategic victory for Iran, but it's better than just pouring more effort into a bad bet. /2x

I'm not crowing TACO because we should all be glad that Trump's backing down after painting himself into a corner. If he needs to make up stories about "double-sided" ceasefires, fine, let him. (By definition, all ceasefires are "double-sided" or they're not a ceasefire). /1

Two weeks! It's always two weeks!

President Trump is backing off, for now, his threat to destroy Iran's civilian infrastructure and wipe out its civilization. In a social media post, Trump said he agreed to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for two weeks if Iran immediately reopens the Strait of Hormuz. @nickschifrin reports.

Okay, then. I doubt that "almost all the points of contention" have been ironed out, but if this is what he needed for a climbdown, good enough.

The President’s threat that “a whole civilization will die tonight” cannot be excused away as an attempt to gain leverage in negotiations with Iran. This type of rhetoric is an affront to the ideals our nation has sought to uphold and promote around the world for nearly 250 years. It undermines our long-standing role as a global beacon of freedom and directly endangers Americans both abroad and at home. The oppressive, terror-spreading regime of the Islamic Republic must be distinguished from the people and the civilization of Iran. Everyone involved—especially the President and Iran’s leaders—must de-escalate their unprecedented saber-rattling before it is too late.

Just a reminder that the premise of the “madman theory” is that a rational person is just pretending to be a madman.
