@alsobunnerpng @NadaNienteNein @ladolcevolk That's exactly it, you don't care. You craving for a character to achieve this great self-development by themselves is just masturbation. They were passive observers in their own misfortune most of the time.

@Magicfist__ @NadaNienteNein @ladolcevolk I don't care how the situation plays out, I care about how well the designed the plot and character development is. I care when the climax of the series is a dues ex machina. I care when the characters become passive observers in their own development.

There’s a theory that Chainsaw Man part 2’s ending is meant to evoke Spirited Away’s conclusion where the memories are lost but the lesson stays with the protagonist. But like I said before, Denji didn’t even make the choice that earned his freedom. Chihiro does.

@alsobunnerpng @NadaNienteNein @ladolcevolk How do you want the situation to play out? It's less satisfying for both Denji and Pochita if Denji abandons Pochita and the whole time Pochita was just... letting him suffer, even though he has full agency to stop the person he cares about from suffering.

@Magicfist__ @NadaNienteNein @ladolcevolk Denji overcoming his obsession for Makima wasn't based in morality, it was the realisation that he'd been living as a slave to Makima. He too was a slave to the rush that was being Chainsaw man, but you're saying he can't overcome this because Pochita is his friend?

"What's the point" "A waste of time" "Oh now it's pointless" "Now that didn't happen" Viewing art as a "result-oriented" transaction turns an emotional journey into a mechanical spreadsheet, where the only value is a final plot payout. This "point-ticking" is a mind killer.

@NadaNienteNein @ladolcevolk We literally see him overcome his obsession for Makima in part 1… so why can’t he do it again for his obsession with chainsaw man in part 2? (The answer is Fujimoto speed ran the ending with little care for plot or development cohesiveness)

@kmartrewardcard @r1ndie A question for you. In the "alt world". Given how "chainsaw man" triggered Pochita's return in heart form. Why did Nuclear weapons/memory of WW2 or other devils not return after Makima talked about them or after she had known of them in her mind back in part 1? I love words btw.

@TrTriton0501 Pochita knew from the start how bad it'd be for Denji. He knows being Chainsaw Man means being hunted down to be used (that's how he got to Earth in the first place), and he knows it makes you so powerful that you can't even enjoy a simple hug. If he sits back, he's evil.

@TrTriton0501 How do you want Denji to abandon Pochita? Give me the play by play here "Dude, my life actually sucks because of you. I'm gonna break the contract." "Yeah, I know it sucks because of me, and I didn't do anything because ✌️" It sacrifices both characters.

Dude, this isn't "giving up a superpower", this is giving up your FRIEND. Pochita is Denji's best friend, it wouldn't be in character for Denji to abandon Pochita for his own benefit. Pochita sacrificing himself for Denji's sake is the only way, and it's in character for Pochita.
Triton0501@TrTriton0501

Fullmetal Alchemist literally ends with Ed giving up Alchemy, the thing he loves and is passionate about, to save his brother. Having the main protagonist give up what makes them special to save others is not a lack of conflict, it’s a resolution to conflict and it’s WORKED.

@TrTriton0501 The characters are there to push an idea. Denji had to let go, but he couldn't and the world ends. The ending is clear in showing that his life would've been better if he let go.

@Magicfist__ It doesn’t fundamentally change anything about what I said; it would have more weight behind it if Denji was to make this sacrifice and it’s not just to his own benefit, it would be to restore the world.

@HeartlessHypno @ARGirisOUT_ @TrTriton0501 @J0hnnyStar The character is just a character. He is a narrative tool, why are you hellbent on having him "succeed" when you very well understand the point? We know in the ending that if he lets go of the chainsaw, he lives a happy life. We know that if he doesn't, world ends.

@Magicfist__ @ARGirisOUT_ @TrTriton0501 @J0hnnyStar Happy* What im curious about is what moronic mental gymnastics do you take to think that the flawed protagonist failing to grow and having zero agency whatsoever to the point where they are bailed out by the very end of the story is a good thing?

You guys have latched yourselves to the idea that Denji was completely incapable of growing past the person he was and that’s the fundamental problem. If Denji could go from having no life at all to learning to love his family to not falling for Makimas bait when she took it from him, the natural progression was learning on his own that he didn’t need Chainsaw Man to be happy. But instead of writing a story where he learns that, Fujimoto decides to have Pochita do it and end the story. That is the disconnect
💤@ARGirisOUT_

@J0hnnyStar Learn what exactly? He beats Makima almost exclusively because he wants to keep being Chainsaw Man. He is renouncing himself to his alter ego, and is why Part 2 occurs like it does. He attached his happiness to being Chainsaw Man, and it ended horribly.

@HeartlessHypno @ARGirisOUT_ @TrTriton0501 @J0hnnyStar That is a terrible framing. Him having to realize he has to abandon his friend, and his friend going "yeah, I knew this had to happen but sit quietly and let it happen anyways" is egregious lol. Pochita has agency, he is his own character that realized how he burdened Denji.

@Magicfist__ @ARGirisOUT_ @TrTriton0501 @J0hnnyStar Pochita wants the best for Denji, and Denji knows this. If Denji was given the choice for this to happen and he made it himself, then he quite literally is doing what Pochita wants him to do. Do whats best for him. To live a somewhat normal life and be bappy.

It's explicitly stablished that the events of Chainsaw Man affect the relationships and behaviors of the characters. No-one acts like their Part 1 selves. Power would've save a complete stranger on a whim. Nayuta would've behave as she does if she hadn't been raised by Denji.
Kai@Theworldwuw

This is utter semantical nonsense what difference is there between it being a dream and split timeline where nobody remembers the original events. They are basically the same thing functional no matter how you dice it.

@HeartlessHypno @ARGirisOUT_ @TrTriton0501 @J0hnnyStar in what universe do you think it is more satisfying for Denji to abandon Pochita for his own sake compared to Pochita sacrificing himself for Denji's sake? Pochita is not a "thing", he is not just a "power", he is his own character and has agency.

@ARGirisOUT_ @TrTriton0501 @J0hnnyStar So. Again. Make it so Denji is the one who chooses and not Pochita. You are quite literally laying out the easiest most simple character arc in existence and saying its 'good' that it never happens/comes to fruition. Denji never develops, and that is a bad thing.
