Lament is an inevitable part of life because death is never far away. Jesus, in his humanity, confronted death in its various forms every day, healing the sick and raising the dead. We do not worship a God who is detached from human suffering, but one who chose to suffer for us.

Did Jesus lament? Absolutely. At the tomb of Lazarus. Over Jerusalem. And on the cross, crying out the words of Psalm 22: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Lament is not a failure of faith. It is part of being human in a world where death is never far away.

There’s a great need for more songs on the body life of the church ‘loving one another’. We have so many ‘vertical’ songs; me and God, God and me, and that’s great, but worship is ‘horizontal’ as well. We’re told to speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.

When I wrote Love Each Other, it was a deliberate attempt to step inside a biblical scene: the Last Supper. To feel the weight of the room. To see Jesus kneel and wash dirty feet. And then to hear Him say: "Love each other in the way that I love you." grahamkendrick.co.uk/love-each-othe…

Where do we run for refuge? From national hero to hunted fugitive; David’s story turns sharply, from palace to cave, from honour to danger. Out of that desperate moment comes a cry: "Have mercy on me, my God… for in you I take refuge." #Lent #Lament #HolyOvershadowing #Psalms

Psalm 88 stands alone among the psalms of lament. It offers no neat resolution, no burst of joy at the end, only the aching honesty of a soul that feels abandoned, unheard, and wrapped in darkness. And yet, even here, there is a fragile turning point. A single word: 'But.'

I’ve placed all my hope in a crucified man. How crazy is that? It’s a kind of manifesto, that I’m saying, ‘I’m nailing my colours to the mast here. I really believe this, and I don’t mind saying so. It’s a vulnerable place to be. I believe it’s true. Graham Kendrick #hope

Most of the lament psalms are personal, but some are clearly communal, and we need them, especially when a community or nation is reeling from a disaster. This is so much more than therapy. Graham Kendrick #lent #lament #grahamkendrick

Lament isn’t just private grief. Scripture gives us communal laments; songs for when whole communities or nations are shaken. Singing them together can feel unexpectedly liberating and strengthening, giving voice to sorrow while turning us toward God. grahamkendrick.co.uk/o-lord-the-clo…

So, are our times of sorrow and suffering a complete waste of time? Ponder for a moment what sublime use God in Christ has put sorrow and suffering to. #lent #lament #suffering #isaiah

Are sorrow and suffering a waste of time? It’s a question many of us carry, especially in seasons of loss or weariness. God has never wasted sorrow. In lament, we’re not pretending the pain isn’t real. We’re trusting that even here, especially here, God is at work. #lament

Although Jesus was crucified, he didn’t have to be there. It was a voluntary action. It was a choice. This is why he came. He knew that was his purpose. I think as you meditate on the cross, it brings you to a place of peace because it’s a reminder of what Christ has done. #jesus

When I sat down to write with Lucy Grimble, I shared a phrase: 'You bared Your wrists to the nails, Your brow to the thorns.' What moved me was this truth; the cross was not an accident. It was a choice. Jesus didn’t have to be there. grahamkendrick.co.uk/thecrosshasspo… #easter

In one of his laments, David, the psalmist writes ‘You number, my wanderings, put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?’ It’s a powerful image. It says God sees every tear. He says, ‘I know. I feel what you are feeling. You are not forgotten. You are not alone.’
