“We need to gamify our app with retention incentive schemes so that our users keep coming back”… Have you considered just building something people actually want to use? There are almost no companies in this industry so far into the life of their value creation that it calls for gamification. Stop being such a boomer. Stop reading the same papers that everyone did in 2015 when this was a novel idea. Stop trying to arbitrarily decrease the rate of churn. If you’re losing users on a regular basis it’s for one reason: your users don’t see value in coming back. Adding a silly gamification model won’t change that outside of ephemeral pumps. The only way this is countered is by financial incentives and then you’re just burning the capital VCs bestowed upon your bank account. You’re failing your fiduciary responsibility by attempting to find ways to fake the numbers rather than building something that people actually want. This includes dropping a token that has streamed incentives, but instead of dumping VC money you’re actively dumping the money of your users, holders, believers, and evangelists. So much talented time and labor is spent on things that will provide no long term value gain. The second incentives stop flowing it’s over. The second it’s no longer fun or appealing it’s over. Gamification of non-game entities is a fools errand until you’ve consumed a majority of the market and even then it’s a real science that has to be systemic through your entire organization. You can’t just hire a game system designer and suddenly unlock the riches of user retention. If you sell shoes and they are ugly, heavy, and uncomfy, no one is going to wear them. This is the state of your product along with many others. Make good shoes before trying to trick people into wearing them.
