I don’t agree. We just don’t care. Our parents were busy too but still showed up. My mom would come back from school, put her bag down, wear a sock and shawl to pay her respects to a family that suffered a loss. This was a norm in many communities. We just don’t care.

+ showing up for friends is important but not always practical or feasible. We are pressed with a tough economy, we have kids we are raising often alone - we certainly try. Showing up is expensive. example, traveling to a funeral was a no brainer but set me back R3k unplanned
