@DonaldForr send link DaviesM125. Agreed deprivation acts as a gateway to other leading causes. But there is personal agency for parents. There are 1000s of children in deprivation that don't end up in care. Culture and attitudes can be relevent to families as well as social work practice.

@MattyMASW The biggest single underlying cause of children being in care is deprivation - but the variations between LAs are remarkable.. unfortunately I cannot work out how to put the relevant graph here!

Since 2003 Monmouthshire has seen the rate of children in care increase by 356%, Torfaen by 258%, but Carmarthenshire saw no change and Neath Port Talbot an increase of just 24%. Why are there such differences? exchangewales.org/understanding-…
