Matheus Fernandes is a talented player, but I genuinely don’t think he is worth £85 million. We are talking about the same player who has been part of relegated teams in back-to-back seasons. There is no doubt he has quality, but I just don’t understand where the £85m valuation is coming from. Here are 6 reasons why I believe Matheus Fernandes’ value should be below £60 million: 1. Lack of elite-level experience Fernandes has shown promise, but he has not yet proven himself consistently at the highest level or in a team competing for major trophies. 2. Back-to-back relegations While one player cannot be blamed for a team’s struggles, being involved in relegation battles in consecutive seasons does not strengthen the case for an £85m valuation. 3. Limited end product For a player being valued among the most expensive midfielders, his goals and assists numbers are not at the level that would justify such a fee. 4. Small sample size of top performances Fernandes has had some impressive displays, but he has not maintained that level over multiple seasons to warrant an elite transfer fee. 5. Market inflation is driving the price His valuation appears to be influenced more by age, potential, and market conditions than by what he has actually achieved on the pitch. 6. Better value options exist For £85m, clubs can target more proven players with stronger records at the highest level, making Fernandes a risky investment at that price. Matheus Fernandes is undoubtedly a good player with plenty of potential, but based on what he has achieved so far, a valuation below £60m feels much more reasonable than the £85m figures being discussed.
