In regards to that question - there are multiple different ways to be English/Scottish/Welsh which are important in different ways and should be applied in different ways. That includes ethnicity, but also culture, national identity, values and others. I think the culture/national identity side takes precedence over the ethnicity/ancestry side. British is a purely civic identity.

No. Scots are an ethnic people, with a very clear and easily accessible genetic and cultural lineage. It isn't something one can obtain through strong feelings. That is actual reality. The term was made for this reason, to unify Scottish, English and Welsh subjects into one sovereign nation. It applies to Scots, English and Welsh people only. You can extend it to Northern Irish people, but its not really correct.

@jerr_rrej Most Scottish and Irish are the same race. I’m half Scott/Irish myself and even I don’t think they’re above the Germans or English. They have different strengths and weaknesses but overall not as good.
