It was a great day for a recount in Madison. We started with a 9-vote margin and ended with an 8-vote margin. Thanks to all of our helpers who were efficient and accurate and patient. They stuck with it until all issues were resolved and the numbers were reconciled.

Nobody should be surprised that it will take the state’s largest city the longest to tabulate absentee ballots. It’s simply math. And the votes on the ballots are the same regardless of when they are reported.

Milwaukee's central count kicked off at 9 a.m., a little late. Could start at 7 a.m. under state law, but delays to begin there are are somewhat typical. This is likely to have an effect on when we see results at the end of the night.

@Morning_Joe Please correct the statement that Steve Kornacki has been making about tabulating central count ballots in Milwaukee. They started counting them when the polls opened this morning. I sent an email to MSNBC on Sunday night about this.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court, at the of a conservative law firm and the Republican Party, has ruled that this would be illegal in Wisconsin. Only voters with disabilities can get assistance returning their ballots. No drop boxes and no ballot harvesting.
