#MoveYourBus “It’s important to realize that your vision of the world isn’t always as accurate as you may think it is, so you should be humble, open to suggestions, and willing to take criticism.” I have so much to learn and can grow further with an open 🧠 and ❤️! #hillchat101

#MoveYourBus “You can spend your time at our school however you choose, but you can only spend it once.” Time is precious and what a difference it can make to walk in every morning knowing this day is special and to cherish it as so. #hillchat101

#empowerbook P2: “It’s the mindset that students develop when they define themselves as makers. When that happens, lives are changed. The world is different, and their world is better.” If we give kids the chance to be makers, we make the world better in the process. #hillchat101

#empowerbook Part 1:“Projects come and go. Technology changes. Ideas do in and out of style. And, yes, people paint over murals. All art is, on some level, temporary. But there’s something you can’t take away...” #hillchat101

#empowerbook “When students are empowered to craft their own learning stories and go on shared learning journeys, they’ll often take the chance to dramatically impact their own lives (and the lives of others) through what they make, create, design, and explore.” 🌎 #hillchat101

#empowerbook “They become empowered. Instead of attributing academic success to a teacher or to luck, they see it as a result of their hard work. They grow more self-directed and independent.” #hillchat101

#empowerbook “The illiterate of the twenty-first century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” Powerful statement! We are never too young or old to be willing to change, explore, and make mistakes. #hillchat101

#empowerbook “I became a different person- not because of the program or even the process but because of a teacher who saw something in me that I couldn’t see in myself.” To see them as they might not see themselves. ☀️💛🧠🤓 #hillchat101

🥳Sharing some of my favorite take aways and quotes from #empowerbook “Are we trying to develop students to fit into our world, or are we hoping students feel they have the power to create a better world both now and in the future” #hillchat101 🤩

#hillchat101 A mistake I have made as an educator is assuming. I had a student who surprised me by their ability to produce rhymes and I was shocked because I had assumed he wasn’t there yet. I needed to celebrate the learning and believe he could instead of being surprised.

In kinder, we learned about needs and wants. This was a real world connection for them, to realize that some things are necessary and others are a luxury that others don’t have. We played a game to sort which things are human needs and which we could live without! #hillchat101
