Enjoy this 99 mph slow mo from @MitchellWhite99 at last week's Pro Day. It only took a few days to sign with the @SFGiants. Some mechanical thoughts: First move: -Check out the drift/pelvic posterior tilt/coil while staying on the inside of the back foot. -Big glove tap timing mechanism keeps the arm relaxed. -Eyes down helps keep the upper half from coming into the throw early. Linear move: -Smooth bicycle kick leg lift eases the transition into the linear move. -Stays stacked over the pelvis and rides a relatively shallow hinge, which leads to a shorter stride (77% of height) and more vertical landing force on the lead leg. -~29 degrees of max hip-shoulder separation, well timed, peaking just after foot strike. Acceleration: -Arm relaxes and pulls from behind as pelvis > torso leads the way. -Hits ~185 degrees of layback. Takeaways: -Mitch isn't expressing crazy ranges of motion, and at 6'2" 195lbs, he doesn't have outlier levers or mass either. -He's expressing good mobility, has good levers, and enough mass, but it's largely his mechanical efficiency (how well he can transfer energy segment to segment) that leads to elite outputs. Sometimes, with hard throwers, you see clear outlier physical qualities, but in many cases, it just comes down to being solid across the board and tying it together with highly efficient movement quality on the mound.
