You are incredibly out of touch grootman, unfortunately you know nothing of what you are trying to defend.

Those accusing us of “defending illegal foreigners” do so not because they have ever seen us defending illegality but because they deliberately distort our positions. 1. On Stilfontein and the zama-zamas Their accusation stems from our rejection of calls for the state to effectively starve zama-zamas, including undocumented workers, to death by sealing mines with hundreds, if not thousands, trapped underground. When we insist that the government cannot resort to extrajudicial killings, they twist this into a claim that we are “defending illegal foreigners.” Rejecting inhumanity is not defending illegality; it is defending basic human rights and the rule of law. 2. On crime and violence They claim we are silent when zama-zamas terrorise communities. This is simply false. SAFTU has consistently condemned all forms of crime and called on the state to act decisively against perpetrators. But when presented with these statements, they ignore them because their aim is not truth but propaganda. 3. On exploitation of undocumented workers They further allege that we are silent when employers exploit undocumented labour in sectors like agriculture, trucking, hospitality, security, and cleaning. Again, this is dishonest. SAFTU has clear national congress resolutions condemning precisely this practice, where employers deliberately use undocumented workers to undermine wages and evade labour laws. Our unions actively conduct inspections and expose these abuses, often covered by the public broadcaster. Yet this reality is conveniently ignored to win a propaganda war. The real issue We cannot reason with those committed to misunderstanding us. Today, in their logic: a) Anyone who refuses to join vigilante groups assaulting people in the streets, burning homes and vehicles, is “defending illegal foreigners.” b) Anyone who rejects tribal chauvinism and refuses to sing divisive slogans that pit Africans against Africans is “defending illegal foreigners.” c) Anyone who refuses to scapegoat migrants for a crisis caused by capitalism, failed policies, unemployment, poverty, and inequality is “defending illegal foreigners.” This is not an honest debate: it is a political project rooted in xenophobia, racism, and tribalism. What they demand is simple: that we abandon facts, principles, and join them in scapegoating the most vulnerable, just as extreme right-wing forces do globally. We refuse. Asizi! We are writing an opinion in the Sowetan that will outline the crisis fuelling this atmosphere.
