Police say they’ll arrest us for “blocking the pavement” outside the Al-Mahdi Islamic Centre in Govanhill. We were invited by the mosque to defend against the far-right monarchists shouting slurs and trying to stop them praying. The only people blocking the road are the police.

Great point, Mike. If the argument is “tax the rich because they’re funding everything,” fine — but don’t then scream “plutocracy!” when they start expecting influence in return. You can’t have it both ways: either we broaden the tax base and share responsibility, or we admit we’ve built a system dependent on the very people we pretend to resent.

There’s nothing “radical” about taxing the rich — we already do. The top 1% pay nearly 30% of all income tax. The real question is: why, after decades of taxing, borrowing, and spending, are millions of children still in poverty? Maybe the problem isn’t the rich. Maybe it’s how you spend the money.

@jeremycorbyn Zakat will solve this. Annual "tax" of all assets. Even those abroad. It would encourage the circulation and spending of money so we do not end up in the first place with millionaires.
