As New York Public Radio prepares to lay off a significant chunk of the staff, we have learned that the organization also hired an outside freelancer to write a brief article covering the layoffs. THREAD

THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us in recent days and said NO to layoffs. Following negotiations with the union, NYPR management agreed to enhanced severance terms and limited buyouts but is not pursuing other alternatives to try to save jobs.

I am always glad I’m a part of @NYPR_Union but I cannot express how completely grateful I am for union strength this week. Solidarity forever. Join a union.

This is sort of like a public radio fundraising pitch, except it's coming from us, the workers who make public radio and are now facing layoffs.
