On March 20, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made a special statement in Parliament, commenting on the sinking of the Iranian ship "Iris Dena" by an American submarine near our territorial waters. Let's listen to what he had to say. "On the issue of Iranian vessels, three Iranian warships, which arrived in India on 26 February 2026 as part of a goodwill visit aimed at strengthening cooperation, requested us to allow them to visit Sri Lanka on 9 and 13 March. We were in the process of reviewing this request for permission. On the same evening, the United States requested permission to land two war aircrafts at the Mattala International Airport in Sri Lanka. We made a clear and firm decision based on our policy of maintaining neutrality. However, there were indications that military tensions were escalating. As a result, we did not grant either of these requests. Some questioned why the Iranian vessels were not granted permission. If we had done so, it would have undermined our overall neutrality. Furthermore, it is very close Mattala, and very close to our region, "This will lead to a military conflict." However, this is what the Iranian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Alireza Delkosh, who held a press conference this morning (23), clearly stated. "The Sri Lankan government has officially invited the three Iranian ships (IRIS Dena, IRIS Booshehr and IRIS Lavan) for a goodwill visit." Thus, it is once again clear that the Sri Lankan President is lying to the public under the guise of parliamentary privileges. The Sri Lankan President should apologize to the Iranian people for the unnecessary loss of the lives of 104 Iranian naval officers, which shows his diplomatic instability. The definite suspicion that the attack on one of the three Iranian ships that visited the country at the invitation of the Sri Lankan President was carried out with the President's secret approval will cause serious damage to the historic Iran-Sri Lankan relations. #iran #srilanka #lka #sl #irisdena
