It was a tough offensive showing from the Phoenix: 5/26 3PT at the end of the 3rd Q (it rose to 11/37 3PT, but the 4th Q shooting wasn’t indicative of most of their night). The officiating in this one didn’t suit SEM’s high-pressure style of play; they picked up multiple techs along the way, in frustration.

The 36ers picked up the 108-96 win in Game 3 to defeat the South East Melbourne 2-1 in their #NBL26 semifinals series. Bryce Cotton with another MVP-level performance: 38 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. Dejan Vasiljevic got the start and dropped 27 points (8/13 FG, 6/10 3PT).

Here’s what you need to know about adding a player late this season, based on conversations I had with NBL officials this evening. • Teams must register (contract submitted + executed by the NBL) a new player before their 25th game of #NBL26. For Sydney, that’s Jan. 15 vs BNE; for Perth, that’s Jan. 16 vs ILL. Contracts need to be locked in by those dates. • A new player must suit up (be on the active roster + dressed) for at least 7 games in order to be playoff-eligible. Jan. 25 is the 7th last game for both Sydney and Perth. • Players who were contracted before their team’s first game of the season are eligible for the playoffs (Sydney’s Keli Leaupepe, for example, has yet to play a regular season game, but is playoff-eligible). • Development Players are automatically eligible for the playoffs.

Angus Glover has signed a two-year extension with the South East Melbourne Phoenix, sources told ESPN. The new deal keeps Glover - who’s averaging a career-high 10.7 ppg, on 37.4% 3PT - with the Phoenix through the 2027-28 NBL season.

Nathan Sobey with an incredible heater: 17 points in the first 4:39 mins of the 3rd Q of a win-or-go-home playoff game. The movement off ball is so dynamic + he does a great job punishing teams that don’t make early connection in transition. He finished w/ 41 points (8/16 3PT).

End of the road for the Perth Wildcats. An elite two-way season from Kristian Doolittle, and John Rillie did a solid job as head coach considering some of the hits they took (missing on their first import PG, their replacement import not adequately filling a need, injuries to Rillie, Duke Jr., Windler). A good JLA season (17ppg, 6.6rpg), albeit at a substantial $ cost. We saw improvement from Pepper + glimpses from Henshall but an inconsistent role led to inconsistent output. A much improved Okwera year. Rillie is contracted for next season, as are JLA/Doolittle/Windler/Henshall/Ja. Rillie. We’ll see about Henshall, re potential college eligibility. Pepper/Okwera become free agents. Nailing the import PG is priority 1, 2, and 3.

Matthew Dellavedova entered the starting lineup for this game, primarily as a defensive matchup for Kristian Doolittle. Doolittle was 3/15 FG, 7/8 FT for his 15 points, largely guarded by the 6’3 Delly; the physicality was a difference-maker.

The Sydney Kings are through to the 2026 NBL Championship Series. They defeat the Perth Wildcats 89-75 in Game 2 of their #NBL26 semifinals series, to sweep them 2-0. Kendric Davis led Sydney with 27-5-5; Makuach Maluach had 23 points (8/12 FG, 3/5 3PT) off the bench.

The 3rd Q was unbelievably impressive from the Phoenix tonight. It was 39-20. A 191.9 offensive rating (101.8 DRtg) for SEM in the quarter. Phoenix shot 8/12 3PT. Nathan Sobey had 17 of his 41 points in the quarter, including 4/6 3PT. John Brown III had 5 offensive rebounds.
