The anti-alcohol stuff has become totally hysterical. It’s the worst and the gayest of the 90s anti-smoking propaganda all over again. Give up alcohol if you want but the stuff isn’t battery acid. A sip won’t send you to the hospital. A glass of wine ruined three days of your life? When did it become normal and acceptable for men to brag about their weak constitutions? Really weird.

You're wasting your time and energy on this. God exists outside of (and within, and through) the realms of time and space. You cannot comprehend Him on with earthly logic, so trying to comprehend the relationship to the Holy Spirit and Jesus is an exercise in futility. You don't have to understand it, you only need to believe and obey.

Effectively, the Father controls the divine essence, which makes Him more powerful than it. Which makes Him God and the essence, not God. Since if there is something more fundamental and/or powerful than God, that thing becomes God necessarily.

@spreadsheeticus @DillowTalk2 It was like that where I grew up in New England too. Fast food was either a treat or because we had no other choice (road trip, for example). It was certainly more affordable for every day people, but it was still a treat for most people I ever knew.

I agree that there is plenty of study to make regarding hell/hades/gehenna, it's interesting to see how it is used and I need to look more often (eg, the thief on the cross was promised "Paradise", but not the Kingdom, arguably), but Jesus spoke about hell as a real place of *eternal* punishment, and he makes it really clear in Matthew 25:41-46 that the unrighteous will spend eternity in hell, along with satan and the other fallen angels, and that eternal life goes to the faithful. (I'm away from my desk most of today, won't be able to reply quickly)

FINALLY SOME ENGAGEMENT! lol When i really started digging into this verse deeper instead of just reading the English translation at face value...i realized it may not be saying exactly what many of us were taught growing up about “eternal hell.” In Luke 12:4 to 5, Jesus is not actually using the modern English concept of “hell” there. The original Greek word is Gehenna...which was a real place outside Jerusalem tied to judgment, uncleanness, idolatry, death, & destruction in the minds of the Jewish people hearing Him. \text{Greek: }\gamma\epsilon\epsilon\nu\nu\alpha;(Gehenna) That honestly changed alot for me because i started realizing Scripture uses several different words that later all got translated into the single English word “hell”...even tho they are not all describing the exact same thing. U have Sheol, Hades, Gehenna, & Tartarus...all distinct words w/ different contexts & meanings attached to them. So personally...i don’t think Luke 12 alone automatically proves the modern doctrine of eternal conscious torment the way many people assume. What i do see clearly in the passage is Jesus warning that God’s authority goes far beyond man’s authority. Men can kill the body...but God alone has authority over final judgment. Another thing that stands out to me is the wording itself. Jesus says to fear the One who after He has killed has power to cast into Gehenna. That order has always made me pause & think deeper because it does not necessarily sound like the common idea people paint today where souls are already immortal & endlessly tortured forever immediately upon death. Then when i compare it to other verses...like Matthew 10:28 saying God can “destroy both soul & body in Gehenna”...i notice the emphasis alot of times is on destruction, perishing, consuming, death, & judgment. The Greek word there for “destroy” is apollymi...which literally carries the idea of destroy, perish, ruin, or lose. So for me personally...i think this topic deserves way more careful study than just assuming our English word “hell” fully captures the original language or ancient understanding. i’m not claiming to have every answer perfectly figured out...but i do think alot of later church tradition may have blended multiple biblical concepts together into one single doctrine that people now rarely question or examine back against the original words themselves. love u brother! 🙏🏻✝️❤️‍🔥💜
