We just wanted a good show. We are hungry for something that appeals to the masses and not the mythical "modern audience." This wasn't a show but a parody like "F-U" to everyone who loved the original. Sometimes, I think that's the point- to change, dilute, or destroy every meaningful IP so that what once was will never be again. It's easy for Mr. Picardo to ridicule those of us who love Star Trek. He's already cashed his check and most likely chooses to see us as slobbering troglodytes. That way he doesn't have to think or even care about what losing a story does to us. A good story grabs your heart. It gets you excited to turn it on, because it celebrates what could have been and what might be. It lets the viewer imagine greatness. For the character and themselves. When you imagine greatness, you strive for it. I know Mr. Picardo wants to believe that the unwashed masses don't understand art. That's not the case. We would devour it whole. Starfleet Academy was not art. It wasn't even good. It was a ship full of stereotypes who don't change, because they think the world should change for them. We just wanted something good. The chance to "boldly go" into a story that mattered to more than 0.01% of the population. We wanted to imagine. To feel catharsis. To celebrate the stories of characters that are real and fierce. We wanted a Starship of Dreams. We just wanted something good. Just once.

I read books. That I borrowed for free from the library. I rode my bike to our local civic center to swim and lift. That I could do for free, year round. I went to the park by the river to fish and swim. For free. I climbed the mountain near my house. For free. I went to the movies. That cost me $1 for an afternoon showing. Anything that started before 5PM, so I could go after school.

What did people do for fun before internet and cell phones? For me, it was roller-skating & board games with friends.

Sometimes, I wonder why I do this work. I wonder why I work so hard to elect Republican majorities into office & — when we are in power — our very elected officials don’t wield or harness that power. I wonder why I lose sleep, miss family vacations, & put my personal life on hold, so wealthy Senators can go on paid vacations after not achieving the very promises they campaigned on. Sometimes, I wonder if they truly care about us & if they actually want to represent the will of the very people that elected them into positions of authority.
