🎭 Hamlet Around the World: Peruvian talent on stage across the UK 🎭🇵🇪🇬🇧 It was a true pleasure for Ambassador Ignacio Higueras to meet and welcome @teatrolaplaza during their time in the UK, where they shared their powerful and moving production of Hamlet with audiences across the country. From their participation at the Edinburgh International Festival (@edintfest), to performances at the Barbican Centre(@BarbicanCentre), and their time in Brighton, their work resonated deeply, opening spaces for reflection, dialogue, and inclusion. In the spirit of #WorldDownSyndromeDay, recently marked on 21 March, we celebrate the transformative power of the arts to challenge perceptions and amplify voices. Through their reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, eight actors with Down syndrome turned “To be or not to be” into a powerful call against prejudice. Their extraordinary journey, spanning more than 50 cities across five continents, is now captured in the documentary short #HamletAroundtheWorld, a testament to courage, talent, and the universal language of theatre. 🎨✨ CENTENARY OF BLANCA VARELA: TIME, THE HALF-OPEN DOOR, THE BLINDING STAR ✨🎨 As part of our programme for #InternationalWomensDay, Ambassador Ignacio Higueras inaugurated this collective exhibition at the Inca Garcilaso Gallery 🖼️, marking the centenary of Peruvian poet Blanca Varela. ✨Bringing together the work of contemporary artists 🎨, the exhibition explores Varela’s poetic universe through a range of techniques and perspectives. Each piece opens a dialogue with her words, offering new ways of engaging with her voice, her silences, and her enduring legacy. 💬 During the inauguration, we were honoured to be joined by Camila de Szyszlo, Blanca Varela’s granddaughter, who shared moving and reflective remarks, as well as our curator, Nani Cárdenas, who offered insight into the vision behind the exhibition. ✨ A conversation with the Ambassador: Relations between Peru and the United Kingdom 🇵🇪🇬🇧📚 Ambassador Ignacio Higueras welcomed students from UCL Latin American Affairs Society and UCL Diplomacy Society (@UCLU_DiA_Soc) from the University College London (@ucl) for a conversation on the excellent political, economic, and cultural relations between Peru and the United Kingdom 🇵🇪🇬🇧. ✨Ambassador Higueras joined virtually the JDI Signing Ceremony 🌳🇵🇪✨ Peru strengthens the protection of Amazon forests with the signing of the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) with Germany, Norway, and the United Kingdom. The heads of @midagriperu, @MinamPeru, and @MinCulturaPe signed the document at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela as witness of honor, alongside the ambassadors of the cooperating countries.

🕊️ In memory of Delicia Milka Franco Ahuanari We are deeply saddened by her passing. It was an honour to have met her and to witness her artistry and professionalism during the exhibition Ayahuasca & Art of the Amazon at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (@SainsburyCentre) in September 2024. Through her work, she gave powerful voice to Amazonian identity, memory, and resilience. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and to the Shipibo-Konibo and artistic communities. Her legacy will endure. 🇵🇪

✨ Peruvian Superfoods in London 🌱🇵🇪✨ Ambassador Ignacio Higueras was delighted to join the Peruvian bioeconomy trade mission visiting London, led by Rainforest Alliance (@RnfrstAlliance), to showcase the richness and sustainability of Peru’s superfoods 🌱🫘💪. The delegation, made up of Peruvian producers of certified, biodiversity-based superfoods and organic ingredients, had the opportunity to connect, exchange insights, and explore collaboration with British and European partners. The visit is part of the UKPACT Amazon Regional Fund, from the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (@FCDOGovUK), a fund aimed at strengthening access to international markets for Amazonian products. 🎨✨ TIERRA YERMA PARTIR by #MaiaSansour ✨🎨 Ambassador Ignacio Higueras inaugurated TIERRA YERMA PARTIR, the first exhibition of our 2026 cultural programme at the Inca Garcilaso Gallery of the Embassy of Peru. He highlighted the importance of opening the year with a contemporary voice that invites reflection and meaningful dialogue, and of creating space for young artists whose work encourages us to pause and reconsider our relationship with the world around us. Working across sculpture, drawing, printmaking and textiles, Maia Sansour explores themes of place, memory and continuity across generations. Through subtle monochromatic palettes and carefully constructed forms, her works evoke fragile and fragmented landscapes that, while marked by absence and distance, gently suggest resilience and the possibility of renewal. ✨ Meeting with the newly appointed HM Trade Commissioner for LATAC 🇵🇪 🤝 🇬🇧 Ambassador Ignacio Higueras had a very fruitful meeting with Amy Barklam, the newly appointed HM Trade Commissioner for Latin America & the Caribbean, in which we discussed the existing economic architecture between Peru and the United Kingdom, and explored opportunities to further strengthen our relationship through exports, investment, and trade policy cooperation. From this executive role, she will represent and promote the United Kingdom in key markets across the region, including Peru.
