120/272 🚈 South Kenton 🍺 The Windermere 💷 £4.50 An outstanding pub. Beatiful 30s art deco exterior, gorgeous wood fittings inside with 40s artwork and a big beer garden to boot. *Three* dartboards, a jukebox and a pool table are here, but the star is the old tiled fireplace.

167/272 🚈 Oxford Circus 🍺 The Argyll Arms 💷 £8.05 A grade II listed pub with an absolutely gorgeous mirrored interior with a beautiful claret ceiling and handsome chandeliers but sadly far too expensive. May sit alongside Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese as London’s “Temple Bar”.

166/272 🚈 Ladbroke Grove 🍺 The Knight of Notting Hill 💷 £6.25 Formerly The KPH which closed some years back, this pub specialising in south Asian food these days. There’s a great smell of spices as you walk in. Pleasantly surprised the price is below £7 too given the area.

165/272 🚈 Bromley-by-Bow 🍺 The Bow Bells 💷 £6.20 Beautifully decorated east-end pub which has been around for over 150 years, this is a real gem. Beautifully decorated, plenty of screens for sports and a pool and dart board, there’s something for everyone here:,

164/272 🚈 Plaistow 🍺 The Black Lion 💷 £6.20 This is a fantastic east end pub with a tonne of history dating back to Tudor times. An old favourite of West Ham players (with Bobby Moore in the top window), the decor inside is gorgeous with a great community feel inside.

163/272 🚈 Leyton 🍺 The Leyton Engineer 💷 £6.50 Formerly Leyton Town Hall, the building was vacant before a restoration saw the pub open in 2024. It’s brimming with character - taxidermy, Roman statues, jukebox chandeliers and a beautiful wooden bar. One of the best so far.

162/272 🚈 Euston 🍺 The Signal Box 💷 £7.65(!) Sometimes the “closest pub to the tube” constraint is a bit of a rod on this account’s back. Similar to The Parcel Yard at King’s Cross, this is a pricey Fuller’s pub which doesn’t benefit from the same level of period decor.

161/272 🚈 Finchley Road 🍺 The North Star 💷 £5.90 Lovely high-ceilinged Victorian pub in a place which otherwise is a pub desert. No-nonsense old fashioned interior with a small terrace to the side and a dedicated corner for darts. Surprisingly cheap food menu too.

160/272 🚈 Ruislip 🍺 The Smugglers Cove 💷 £4.80 Formerly known as The Crock of Gold, Lulu’s and Laurel’s, The Smugglers Cove is the sort of typical wood panelled former retail unit notionally Irish pub you get around north west London. Not all that much to write about here.

159/272 🚈 Hainault 🍺 The Old Maypole 💷 £5.00 An approx. early 1900s pub, The Old Maypole is a very large community pub which reopened ten years ago after a protracted closure. Chain ran these days, I do wish the decoration both inside and out was a bit more colourful.

160/272 🚈 Fairlop 🍺 The New Fairlop Oak 💷 £3.60 One of the ‘older’ Wetherspoons (and you can tell by the decor), the pub takes its name from the new oak tree planted when the original blew down 100 years ago. Nice and bright inside, with a good beer garden to the rear.

158/272 🚈 Eastcote 🍺 Houlihans 💷 £4.70 A typical low-key Irish former retail unit pub, Houlihans does have a pretty good games area with pool and darts up the stairs. Formerly named Captain Morgans, it’s a reasonably priced no-frills spot to watch the sport.

157/272 🚈 Hanger Lane 🍺 The Wheatsheaf 💷 £7.30 A long way from the pub-barren area of the North Circular lies this charming building on a quiet residential street. Ample space at the back with a converted barn area, the only mark against this 19th century pub is the price.

156/272 🚈 Kilburn 🍺 The North London Tavern 💷 £6.40 A 150-odd year pub with a lovely high ceiling not-too-long ago reopened. I must admit I preferred the former blue and white colourscheme rather than Greene King’s bottle green, but nice to see this back. Two dartboards too.

155/272 🚈 Hyde Park Corner 🍺 The Grenadier 💷 £7.20 Taking its name from the pub’s past use as an officer’s mess, The Grenadier is a picturesque pub nestled around 18th century barrack housing. Plenty of character on the inside but due to small size best avoided on Thursdays.

154/272 🚈 High Street Kensington 🍺 The Prince of Wales 💷 £6.95 From the outside, this is a 19th century building which appears deceptively small. On the inside however it resembles the sort of Greene King pub ubiquitous to zones 1 and 2. Try the Elephant & Castle nearby.

153/272 🚈 High Barnet 🍺 The Red Lion 💷 £5.00 15th century coach inn (redesigned by William Foster), the pub now has a family-orientated feel with restaurant. There’s a nice pool and darts area to the rear with beer garden, and the red lion sign overhanging is a great touch.
