BREAKING: The NBA will not allow the Kawhi trade to the Raptors until their investigation is complete 😳

Developing: The Los Angeles Clippers-Toronto Raptors trade centered on Kawhi Leonard will not be complete until the NBA investigation into the Clippers is over. Statement from the Clippers to ESPN:   For the past 10 months, our organization has fully cooperated with an NBA investigation, participating in dozens of interviews, providing tens of thousands of documents, and facilitating access to our staff. While the process has been challenging, we have remained committed to transparency.   On June 30, we reached an agreement in principle to trade Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors. We have since been informed that the trade can only be finalized if the Raptors' ownership group assumes the risk of penalties related to Kawhi’s contract that could theoretically result from the ongoing investigation.  The investigation is ongoing, and we expect the trade to be finalized following its conclusion.   At the heart of this investigation are Joe Sanberg and Aspiration. We did not funnel money to Kawhi Leonard through Aspiration. Like many sophisticated investors, financial institutions, and business partners, we were victims of a fraud initiated by Sanberg, who has been convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison.     We recognize the uncertainty this has created and the impact it has had on our team, our fans, the Raptors organization, their fans, and the players whose futures remain affected while this process continues.   We remain confident that, when the facts are evaluated fairly and thoroughly, the NBA will confirm exactly what we have said from the beginning: We have not done what we are accused of doing.

Based on the sign n trade outlined for the Kuminga trade between Atlanta and the Lakers, with Vanderbilt going to atlanta at $12.428m plus the FRP swap 2032: In this specific framework, the salary Kuminga could be paid by the Lakers in the first season ranges from a minimum of $15.54 million up to a maximum of approximately $17.5 million. Minimum Salary (125% + $100K rule): To balance an outgoing $12.428 million salary, the acquiring team can take back up to $12.428 million \(\times \) \(1.25\) + \(0.1\) million \(\approx \) $15.535 million. Maximum Salary (Base + $5M rule): The maximum outgoing/incoming salary difference allowed for a player making between $6.53 million and $19.6 million is outgoing salary + $5 million. Therefore, the Lakers can take back up to $12.428 million + $5 million = $17.428 million (or slightly higher depending on the exact calculation variables applied). So Kuminga should get between $15.5m and $17.5m for his first year & it should be at least 3 years. I am guessing Lakers will give him the $17.5m since it means less appreciation to get him more money going forward.

I am told that the Kuminga deal to the lakers is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
