@ENirenberg The impetus probably came from George Dicks work that showed loss of attenuation could happen after one passage of Sabin vaccine.

why is it we only know the molecular basis of attenuation for like polio and not for basically any other live attenuated vaccine this seems like a pretty substantial and important research gap
