The UAE hasn’t “chosen Sparta over Athens”. The UAE is neither. It’s a modern state operating in a globalized systemn. Yes Dubai was initially inspired by Singapore, but it has long developed its own model and identity. Singapire is not truly non-aligned, it carefully balances relationships. In today’s world, economic strength and strategic security are not mutually exclusive, they reinforce each other. The idea that a nationn must choose one over the other is outdated thinking.

Dr Al Mulla, I believe that Dubai was modelled on Singapore. But Singapore has maintained non-alignment between China - USA, and continued to prosper and maintain its relevance. How is the new military assertiveness of UAE change its economic and commercial model? If UAE has decided to become Sparta from Athens, then one should look at history of Sparta to learn lessons.
