The Sun Eater novelist Christopher Ruocchio on what he's working on next:
"My next project is an epic fantasy trilogy called The Doomsong Saga, the first part of which—a book entitled The Godstained House—is out from DAW sometime in AD 2027.
It is set in a fantasy world inspired by the Greek tragic literature—and by the Mediterranean of the late Bronze Age in general. It follows a brother and sister—Otonas and Dareia, the prince and princess of the Kingdom of Ragos—in their gods-given quest to avenge their murdered father, the king.
The first book is fully outlined, and I plan to start the first draft after the new year. It will be in third person, with the story told both from Otonas’s point-of-view and Dareia’s, which will be a first for me. I’ve not written a novel from two perspectives before, so that will be a nice challenge.
With Doomsong, I want to try and get back to an older style of fantasy. Away from the gamified, mechanical magic that has become so popular and toward something a bit more…mythic. A bit more dream-like and fairy tale. I’m really excited about it, and hope readers will be, too."
Are you looking forward to this one?
