Charles Hamilton Houston: one of the most important figures in #BlackHistory you may have never heard of. Given the nickname “The Man Who Killed Jim Crow”, he is responsible for exposing the lie of “separate but equal” and was a mentor to none other than Thurgood Marshall.

Hughes helped the aforementioned Dr. Carter G. Woodson catalog new, noteworthy, and previously undocumented experiences and achievements of Black Americans. This new field of study led Dr. Woodson to inaugurate the holiday Black History Month as we know it today, in February 1926
