It’s hard to put into words how proud I am of Spence. As an older brother, I can’t help but get emotional when I think about everything my little brother has accomplished. There’s one story that always plays in my head when I think about his success. I was fortunate enough to receive my first offer from BYU when I was in 8th grade. It was a huge accomplishment for my family and I, and it brought a lot of attention. Fast forward a few years, I’m a junior in high school, Spence is a freshman. My recruiting is picking up and I’m getting more offers, while Spence still hadn’t gotten his first yet. I could tell it bothered him, even though he never showed it. If you know Spence, you know he always has a smile on his face and chooses positivity, even when something is weighing on him. One night around 1 am, we’re laying in our room and I hear him whisper, “Hey Log, are you up?” I pretend to be asleep… then he asks again. And again. And again. If you know Spence, you know he wasn’t going to stop till I was actually up 🤣 I finally roll over annoyed and said, “Yes, I’m up now. What the hell do you want?” He goes, “Can I ask you a question, bro?” Then he asks, “Log… be honest with me. Do you think I’m ever gonna be good enough to get an offer?” At first I’m thinking, you really woke me up to ask me that? You’re only a freshman, of course you can. But I could tell it had been on his mind for a while, so I told him, “Of course you are. There’s no secret. Just work hard.” I also told him about a conversation I had with my head coach before he had even met Spence. I said, “Coach Stokes asked if my little brother was any good. I told him you were good, and that you were going to be way better than me. So don’t make me look like an idiot.” Now here we are just a few years later, and it brings me so much joy knowing my younger brother didn’t make me look like an idiot 🤣🤣 CONGRATS TO MY DAWG ON BEING THE FIRST UTAH MAN TO WIN THE OUTLAND TROPHY! LOVE YOU SPENCE 🤞🏽
