This past weekend, multiple illegal vehicle sideshows occurred throughout the City of Sacramento. Several vehicles involved were stopped, and through the coordinated efforts of officers on the ground and assisting agencies’ air and ground units, officers also pursued suspect vehicles that refused to stop when enforcement was attempted. As a result, suspect vehicles were impounded, multiple citations were issued, and arrests were made for charges related to sideshow activity and vehicle pursuits. Sideshow activity is illegal and poses serious dangers to participants, bystanders, and surrounding communities. It can also result in significant property damage and disrupt neighborhoods. These dangerous stunts put innocent drivers, pedestrians, and children at risk. Sideshow activity will not be tolerated. SPD remains committed to proactive vehicle enforcement and will continue working to identify offenders and hold them accountable. Penalties may include fines, vehicle impoundment, and arrest. What You Can Do: - If you witness sideshow activity within the City of Sacramento, contact the Sacramento Police Department. Your report could save lives. - Know that the thrill of illegal stunts isn’t worth the risk to yourself, your passengers, or the community. - Stay safe, drive responsibly, and respect our neighborhoods.

Join our Public Safety Camera Network today! This growing program, launched last year, is aimed at enhancing community safety and increasing efficiency in investigations. Registrants’ information is confidential and only used for criminal investigations or emergencies. This program is completely voluntary and registration is free. This week, we celebrated the retirement of two individuals who have dedicated decades of service to the Sacramento Police Department. Police Records Specialist II Victor Lum joined the department in October 1995, as a Community Service Officer where he worked in several units including Robbery and Burglary, Property Crimes, and Neighborhood Crimes. In 2012, Victor joined the Records Division where he is retiring from with over 29 years of service. Custodian II Mark Gresham was first hired by the Sacramento Police Department in September 1997, and has worked for our department for over 27 years. Thank you, Victor and Mark, for your unwavering dedication and commitment to both the department and city of Sacramento. We wish you the best in your future endeavors!

We’ve established the Sacramento Regional Human Trafficking Task Force to combat all forms of human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of all people. Today, we join forces with one shared pursuit: Putting a stop to this heinous crime and securing justice for survivors.

Today, we attended a news conference in South Sacramento to announce the new Sacramento Regional Human Trafficking Task Force (HTTF) in partnership with the Sacramento County DA’s Office, CA Department of Justice, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations. This regional partnership will strengthen our continued commitment to fighting against human trafficking by shedding light into this terrible crime, supporting survivors, holding traffickers accountable, and ending exploitation in our communities. @SacPoliceChief

Today, our own Deputy Chief Green and Lieutenant Briggs met with students from the Sacramento State University Law Enforcement Candidate Scholars’ (LECS) Program @sacstate_lecs. They shared insights about our department, highlighted the amazing work our officers do in the community, and gave a peek into the exciting career opportunities in law enforcement.

Today, two members from our Honor Guard unit joined law enforcement from around the country to pay respects to @RSO Deputy Corlew, his family, friends, and co-workers. It’s with great sadness that we have to, but we are honored to stand with them in their time of grief. Rest in peace, Deputy Corlew. @SacPoliceChief

Congratulations to our very own Sgt. Mantell who recently completed the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI). This 8-month intensive course is designed to take students through an interdisciplinary analysis of management and leadership to enhance the skills of public safety supervisors and managers.
