GLAAD’s “Where We Are On TV” report is out! We’ll be sharing out the data shortly, but the numbers are not looking good. #SaveQueerStories

I would bet that an intentional re-release of these queer shows, given proper hype and promotion, would see strong returns.

Even hit shows see a huge drop in views in the months after their debuts. That the likes of DBDA, S&B, and KAOS, which received little promotion and were quickly shelved, are still performing at >1/4 the popularity of these shows speaks to the evergreen appeal of queer stories.

These lists are always packed with amazing queer-inclusive shows. It’s funny how so rarely a non-queer show is unjustly canceled. #SaveQueerStories

The cancellation of Colbert could not be a more stark example of the ways our media is restricted by those in power based on their personal agendas. Democracy cannot thrive with censorship. Our media needs to commit to keeping inclusive voices on air.

Our partner fandoms still show up in Best Of lists a year+ after their cancellations. They are subjects of essays about the importance of diverse and queer stories. Inclusive media matters. It’s also popular and in-demand. Speak up for queer representation! #SaveQueerStories

As we wait for GLAAD’s Where We Are on TV report, we’ve been dabbling in viewership numbers.

Though the reason hasn’t been announced, it’s hard not to read the cancellation of Queer Eye as a bad omen in our current political climate. The compassion, positivity, and inclusion the show stands for are sorely needed. #SaveQueerStories advocate.com/arts-entertain…

Though these examples illustrate the point, this is more than a matter of one poorly-performing show or another. It’s a consistent, measurable trend of disproportionate cancellations for queer shows. #SaveQueerStories savequeerstories.carrd.co

It’s interesting to note that Baby Reindeer was newly trending at Dead Boy Detectives’s release, and then Bridgerton trended for its new season on the 3rd week. These shows competed on par with many shows that saw renewals. Yet studios seemed unwilling to give them a shot.

As more bad news rolls in, please remember to take care of yourself. Be angry, take action, but don’t break yourself. We need every last one of us.

“Suddenly, you remove this big, key piece, which is all about identity, and Elio just becomes about totally nothing.” Stories about identity are relatable to everyone. Cutting diversity and depth for the sake of a “safe” product impoverishes good storytelling. #SaveQueerStories
