The traditional healer looked at my friend Jenny and said something that froze the entire room.
She said, “You will never be able to give birth to a child… and even if you try to adopt, that child will die.”
We were both shocked. I almost reacted immediately, but Jenny held my hand and told me to calm down.
Then the healer leaned forward and said something even more disturbing she told Jenny to explain what happened in her former apartment before marriage.
My friend went silent for a long time… then started shaking.
For context, Jenny has been childless for six years of marriage. She and her husband had gone from hospital to hospital, and doctors confirmed there was no medical issue on either side. Yet, no child ever came.
She then began to narrate something I will never forget.
In her old apartment, she had a friendly relationship with a neighbour who had a little daughter about a year old. The child loved Jenny and would always run to her anytime she saw her.
But one day, after a serious quarrel between Jenny and the child’s mother, everything changed.
The child came to play around Jenny while she was outside washing. Jenny scolded her harshly. The child, still innocent, wandered around the compound… and ended up near an open well.
Jenny saw her.
And did nothing.
The child fell in.
Instead of calling for help immediately, she closed the well and went inside.
Hours later, the child’s body was discovered.
I couldn’t breathe when I heard it.
I stood up in anger, looked at her, and said she didn’t deserve to ever have a child.
And I walked away.
Since that day, I cut ties with Jenny completely.
