Apple did enable this with Apple Silicon—people are using the Mac Mini for AI because the hardware is that good.
What changed isn’t Apple, it’s the rise of local AI tools. The Mini just happens to be perfectly positioned for it.

Mac Mini was 1% of Mac sales for years. A cute little box nobody took seriously. Then OpenClaw dropped, people panic-bought them in Feb 2026 to run local AI, and there was an actual shortage. Now Perplexity ships Personal Computer and the $499 Mac Mini is a headless AI server with 20+ frontier models, iPhone remote access, and 2FA. The paperweight became the most interesting computer Apple sells. And Apple had nothing to do with it.
