The Sheffield Shield is obviously a very fine red ball competition (and second only to the County Championship globally 😉). But I can’t help feeling that the current trophy is far too small and understated and would benefit from being much, MUCH bigger.

Yes Rob, you tried but you made poor decisions and McCullum made poor decisions and it all went horribly wrong — both on and off the field. You persisted with players who aren’t good enough (when the whole world told you that they weren’t good enough). Selection was poor, preparation was poor, execution was poor and you lost control of the players. Personally, I have no faith that either of you have the judgement, the ability or the leadership skills to take England further or to make them better.

This is probably the first ever cricket world cup that has genuinely felt like a world cup. In terms of who competes v who, and in terms of how competitive those games have been.

What’s mentally tougher and more draining? Holding your nerve in a tight run chase against a top ranked side, or doing it against a team you’re expected to beat when the pressure to “not mess it up” kicks in? Different stakes. Different noise. Same heartbeat. @T20WorldCup
