We’ve reached a point where we never know if he’s lying or telling the truth. We have to rely on the leadership of other countries to tell us what’s actually happening. It’s exhausting.

The King David Hotel bombing (July 22, 1946) was carried out by the Irgun (a Zionist paramilitary organization) and is widely regarded as a response to Operation Agatha, also known in Israel as “Black Saturday” (June 29, 1946).20 What Operation Agatha (“Black Saturday”) Involved On that day, British Mandate authorities in Palestine launched large-scale raids across Jewish communities. They: •Arrested nearly 3,000 Zionist leaders, officials, and suspected militants (including members of the Haganah, Irgun, and Lehi). •Conducted searches of the Jewish Agency headquarters and other institutions. •Confiscated large quantities of documents and weapons.0 The British stored many of these incriminating documents (which linked the Jewish Agency and Haganah to the broader Jewish insurgency against British rule) in the southern wing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, which housed the British administrative and military headquarters.27 Why the Irgun Targeted the Hotel The Irgun’s primary motives for the bombing were: •Destroy the seized documents to protect the Jewish leadership and underground networks from further British action. •Retaliate against the mass arrests and raids of Operation Agatha, which the Irgun and others viewed as a major escalation in British suppression of Jewish efforts toward statehood in Palestine. •Strike at the symbolic and operational heart of British control in the region.45 The operation had initial approval from the Haganah (the main Jewish paramilitary group), though that support was reportedly withdrawn before execution. Irgun leader Menachem Begin (later Israel’s prime minister) framed it as a proportionate reprisal under the group’s policy that “the scope of the reprisal is equal to the magnitude of the attack.”30 Context in the Jewish Insurgency This attack occurred amid the broader Jewish insurgency in Mandatory Palestine (1944–1948), during which Zionist groups resisted British restrictions on Jewish immigration and land purchases, especially in the aftermath of the Holocaust. The Irgun and Lehi (Stern Gang) pursued more aggressive tactics than the Haganah, including sabotage and targeted attacks on British targets. The King David bombing killed 91 people (British, Arabs, Jews, and others) and injured dozens more, making it one of the deadliest incidents of the period. Irgun members claimed they issued warnings to evacuate the building, though this remains disputed.8 In summary, there was no single prior “terrorist attack” by another group that directly prompted it; instead, it was a direct reprisal for the British Operation Agatha raids and arrests. The event contributed to growing British weariness with governing Palestine, eventually leading to their decision to withdraw and refer the matter to the United Nations.

Trump using the U.S. Navy to blockade the Strait of Hormuz could easily be considered an act of war by other nations impacted by the action. What right does the U.S. have to use military force to prevent China from buying oil? However, China’s right to retaliate would seem clear.

A Chinese Vessel passed the Strait of Hormuz today. This specific ship is sanctioned by the U.S. government. Trump’s navy didn’t even try to stop it. It’s clear who controls the Strait 🇮🇷

I’m going to make many of you spitting mad at me for pointing this out, but now that we have started the naval blockade, Iran’s strategic position (which was already hopeless) has become terminal. They are soon going to run out of storage space for their oil. And we haven’t even yet taken Kharg Island. This will force them to shut down current oil production, which itself is a drastic step that will further wreck their economy. Without their oil money, they’re finished. And no one is coming to save them, either. Nobody wants to mess with the two best militaries on the planet. Meanwhile, pretty much the entire rest of the globe is demanding that Iran reopen the strait. And because markets always adjust, the Gulf states are already adopting workarounds in order to avoid this same problem in the future. When the history of this war is written, it will be recorded that the regime’s decision to close the strait was a colossal miscalculation that relied too heavily on short term consequences (a hike in the price of oil, coupled with the belief that nations would unite against us rather than them). In chess, there is a famous quote to the effect that the threat is always stronger than the execution. Here, the threat to close the strait was stronger, especially with Trump and with countries in Europe and the Far East. The decision to close the strait was never going to work as long as we refused to budge. And it has greatly weakened Iran’s position. The same point applies to Iranian attacks on energy structure and desalination plants. Once they went beyond mere threats to actual attacks, they weakened their position and strengthened our resolve and those of our allies. Now everyone fully understands the risk of the regime’s ability to blackmail the global economy on top of all their other shit. The Gulf states now understand the folly of hoping that the alligator would eat them last, and are now working on a closer alliance with U.S. and Israel. I don’t know how much longer this war will last. But don’t bitch at me when I say that we have had a clear strategic plan from the beginning and that it is playing out. Once we decided that Iran was not going to surrender immediately, we decided to begin the death grip with the blockade. The rest is now a matter of time, patience, and persistence.
