St Mary's Choir

Meet our amazing choral scholars and organ scholar for this year - a fabulously talented bunch of young musicians. Come and hear them every Wednesday (6.15pm) and on Sundays (10.45am and 6.30pm).

Yesterday we hosted our now-annual wine and cheese evening to welcome (back) our wonderful choral and organ scholars! We’re excited to watch them grow as musicians over the coming year and are grateful for their contribution to @St_Marys_Choir and the church community.

Absolutely thrilled to welcome @solomonsknot back to St Mary's for their programme of Bach motets and other baroque gems. Come and hear them in @StMarysNotts on 6 December!

We are holding a FREE singing workshop for girls aged 6-11 on Monday 15th July, 4pm-5.30pm. All are welcome but spaces are limited, so please email lhaigh@stmarynotts.org to confirm your child’s place.

Yesterday we had the great joy of celebrating the talents of our fantastic Choral Scholars as they gave their end of year concert! We’re so proud of all they’ve achieved and while we will miss Ellie-Jean, Abigail, and Macharia next term we are sure they will do great things.

Very much looking forward to seeing some of our young choristers join with @NottinghamBach in Handel’s #Messiah this afternoon. Lucy and the children have been working hard on this all term. And they’ll also be debuting their brand new cassocks, which arrived yesterday!

Many congratulations to our wonderful choral scholar Macharia on a fabulous recital in @SouthwMinster today. A rich, inspiring and beautiful programme of spirituals was a real treat to hear. Philip Robinson provided excellent accompaniment at the piano.

Join us for Choral Evensong at 6.15pm on this Feast of St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne (pictured below alongside St Wilfrid in our South Transept). The service will be led by Fr Ian McCormack, and will feature music by Farrant and Victoria.

We're also honoured to be singing for a solemn mass for the Purification at @stgeorgenotts this evening, including Byrd's Mass for 5 Voices and music by Stanford and Eccard. A rich weekend's musical fare!

Join us tonight for Wednesday Evensong at 6.15pm! The perfect way to end a busy working day, this evening’s service will be led by Fr Ian McCormack, and will feature music by Stanford.

This Sunday is our patronal festival and we're celebrating with a wonderful day of music: 10.45 am: Candlemas service (Children's Choirs) 3.30 pm: Concert - J. S. Bach Goldberg Variations (Luther College String Trio) 6.30 pm: Patronal festival Eucharist (adult choir)

The church where, on an early 90s Xmas morn, boy chorister to my left was summoned to the vestry during sermon. Solemnly processed back in to the back row of the stalls, bowed to the senior lay clerk and produced a port bottle from his rh cassock pocket & 4 glasses from the left

As the choir of St Mary's Nottingham, we can confirm the beer at the pub directly opposite the church really is excellent (@keanshead), but we would never condone smoking a pipe in church.

This Sunday at 6.30pm we conclude the season of Christmas with our service for Epiphany. With readings and beautiful music by Herbert Howells, Felix Mendelssohn, Tomas Luis de Victoria and Edward Elgar, it's a chance to reflect and look forward with hope for the new year.

On Sunday 3 December we celebrate the start of Advent. Our 10.45 Eucharist is sung to Hassler's lovely Missa Sine Nomine. Or join us at 6.30 pm for our beautiful Advent Procession, including music by Kerensa Briggs, Arnold Bax, William Byrd and Sergei Rachmaninov

On Sunday @StMarysNotts the choir will sing Byrd's setting of the Mass for 5 voices and the Ave Maria by Robert Parsons for our 10.45 am Eucharist. Our 6.30pm evensong includes responses by Stewart, canticles by Bairstow (D major) and Byrd's magnificent Laudibus in Sanctis.

This Sunday at @StMarysNotts our wonderful children's choirs will lead the worship for eucharist at 10.45 am. In the evening the adult choir will sing choral evensong at 6.30 pm. Canticles are by Blair in b minor and the anthem is 'My soul, there is a country' by Parry.
