Now THIS is good news! Math is a language. Once the basics, are down then the fancy stuff is doable. Media and social media taught us to be unintelligent. We ALL have intelligence. Don't give it away to people who don't care. Source: The Hechinger Report search.app/9uxWM

Exit tickets are a way to cover yourself, thereby covering administration. It is merely a flash of data, and doesn't have much merit. Practice, practice, application, then mastery. But with the timelines and benchmarks teachers are under, it is impossible to meet impossible expectations with the way it's fine now.

Day 30 in a hs class of struggling readers: Give me all the ideas and feedback on exit tickets. I need way more data on what these students are learning and what is lack of effort/learned helplessness...

At the risk of sounding like an alien conspiracy person, I don't see a tail. I see a glowing object surrounded by less glowing objects. Of they're talking about the fluffy dust trailing behind..... I'm not buyin' it. 😉

The need is to have students reading independently by the BEGINNING of third grade. Then a careful selection of book-per-month keeps them reading and engaged thereafter. Source: Education Week search.app/HE8mb

Let me assure one and all that I think Jared Isaacman @rookisaacman is doing a terrific job. For my part, I am entirely unsuited for any political position that requires interfaces with idiots, a fact that a number of supervisors recognized after I had a shoving match with an astronaut in an American embassy. That is why I write for a living and, based on experience, make comments on this space but I sympathize entirely with Jared. He is fighting not only wrongheaded &!powerful people but history.

🚨: Finland successfully transmits electric power through the air without using physical wires. Scientists successfully transmitted electricity through air using ultrasonic sound waves and laser beams. Finland is positioning itself at the forefront of a wireless energy revolution, with researchers from the University of Helsinki and the University of Oulu pioneering methods to move electricity without physical cables. One of the most striking developments involves using high-intensity ultrasonic sound waves to create invisible pathways through the air, effectively guiding electrical sparks along a controlled route. While currently in the experimental phase, this 'acoustic wire' technology could eventually enable contactless electrical connections and smart interfaces that function entirely without plugs or traditional wiring. Beyond sound-guided energy, Finnish innovation is also leveraging light and radio frequencies to solve complex power challenges. The private sector is developing 'power-by-light' systems that utilize high-powered lasers to transmit electricity to remote receivers, providing critical galvanic isolation for hazardous environments like nuclear plants and high-voltage stations. Simultaneously, advancements in radio-frequency harvesting are turning ambient waves into 'Wi-Fi for power,' potentially eliminating the need for millions of disposable batteries in low-power IoT sensors. Together, these technologies signal a shift toward a more flexible, cable-free infrastructure for global industry. source: University of Helsink. @JamesAFurey Teachers don't run hotels. They are charged with the education of our most valuable investments. Our children. Meet them halfway. Be a partner - not a customer.

When teachers are held responsible for student learning more than the student themselves, students stop being responsible for anything. That arrangement infantilizes, excuses, and lies. Education requires a clear order: instruction is given; effort is expected; consequences follow.
